3. SKA science meeting “A precursor view of the SKA sky” (15-19 March 2021, virtual)
Abstract submission for the 2021 SKA science meeting, entitled “A precursor view of the SKA sky”, is open through our new submission portal:https://skao.eventsair.com/science21/presentation
In the year that marks the establishment of the SKA Observatory, as well as the start of SKA construction activities, we want to bring the focus to science with the new and exciting results that are being produced by the SKA precursors and pathfinders and their implication for SKA.
The conference will be a fully virtual event, to be held on 15-19 March 2021.
This new virtual format will allow us to welcome participation across all time zones.
Our conference will include plenary sessions organised by the SOC, as well as splinter sessions organised independently by the Science Working Groups.
The registration fee will be £40 per person (£20 for students) and registrations will open early 2021.

4. IV Joint ICTP-Trieste/ICTP-SAIFR School on Cosmology: Challenges for the Standard Cosmological Model (January 18-29, 2021, videoconference)
In this IVth Edition of the School, in addition to the standard topics we would like to focus on some recent challenges in Cosmology: the recent developments concerning tensions in the standard cosmological model, the modelling and testing of fundamental physics on nonlinear scales and the use of gravitational waves to test cosmology.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the School will be held online. We will continue with the format of a 2-week school, with 3 courses each week. Each course consists of 5 60-minutes lectures and we will arrange ample time for discussions.
There is no registration fee.

5. Communicating science school for young researchers
The International Summer School Communicating Science is expected to take place in Berlin in the last week of July or the first week of August 2021.
Application is open to young researchers who are currently and will be doing research at European universities during summer 2021.
Participation is free of charge and includes catering during the conference programme. Travel and accommodation expenses will be reimbursed upon consultation.
Knowledge and experience in science communication is desirable, but not a prerequisite for participation in the event.
6. Seven postdoctoral and three PhD positions on the interface between Quantum Technology and Fundamental Physics 2021 (UK)
The UK consortium uniting the quantum technology and fundamental physics communities is announcing the opening of seven postdoctoral and three PhD positions for addressing fundamental questions related to the early universe and black holes. The essential physical processes of interest occur when gravitational interactions are strong, and quantum effects are important. These situations are difficult to observe and impossible to experiment with. The pressing need for experimental verification of these ideas coincides with huge experimental advances by the quantum technology community. We have formed an interdisciplinary consortium uniting the quantum technology and fundamental physics communities to merge these strands of investigation by employing analogue quantum simulators. The consortium is an interactive network of scientists from seven UK-based research organisations located in St.Andrews, Cambridge, King’s College London, Newcastle, Nottingham, University College London and Royal Holloway University of London.

Deadline: 14 February 2021 (TBC) - Experimental Superfluid Optomechanics systems, Interferometry and Nanofabrication for Laboratory Analogues of Black Holes(Royal Holloway University of London and Nottingham University)three open postdoctoral and three PhD positions to work on the measurement of hybrid superfluid optomechanical devices at low temperature. This work involves the development of experimental tools to build analogue systems of black holes. The experimental tools in place include state-of-the-art nanofabrication and low temperature facilities, and quantum optomechanics (RF & Optical) platforms. 7. Postdoctoral research associate on CMB science at Fermilab

The Particle Physics Division seeks outstanding applicants for a post-doctoral Research Associate position in cosmic microwave background (CMB) science. This position is aimed at exceptional recent PhD recipients with a proven research record from prior experience in experimental astrophysics and cosmology. Fermilab is leading survey operations for the SPT-3G experiment, which is performing world-leading measurements of the CMB. In addition, Fermilab is actively involved in the design and development of the future CMB-S4 experiment. This position provides the opportunity to participate in the development of new projects targeting related detector development, readout electronics, optical coupling, and detector module R&D capitalizing on the broad range of scientific, computing, engineering, and technical expertise available at the laboratory.

8. Tenure Track/Faculty Position for Women in Physics at SISSA

SISSA for Women in Physics: The Physics Area at the “Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati” (SISSA) in Trieste, Italy, invites expressions of interest for a faculty position from outstanding female candidates with a strong research record in any of the fields covered by the Area (Astrophysics and Cosmology, Astroparticle Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Statistical Physics, Statistical Physics of Biological Systems, Theoretical Particle Physics). The appointment procedure will be activated at the assistant professor, tenure-track, level*.
The successful candidate is expected to work as an independent principal investigator, promoting and leading research activities to complement the current expertise of the present SISSA groups, as well as to attract external funds, take an active part in the SISSA PhD teaching programme, and supervise graduate students (selected on a competitive basis and funded by bursaries provided by SISSA).
