4. “New Strategies for extracting cosmology from galaxy surveys” (July 1-5, 2024, Sexten, Italy)
We are excited to announce that the 2nd edition of the workshop “New Strategies for extracting cosmology from galaxy surveys” will be held July 1-5, 2024 in Sexten/Sesto, Italy.

In light of the new generation of large-scale structure surveys such as Euclid, DESI, LSST, SPHEREx, SKA and Roman, it is more and more important to develop techniques that efficiently extract cosmological information from galaxy clustering. The large number of ongoing efforts reach from new summary statistics for efficient data compression to full forward models for field-level analysis and use an expanded range of statistical techniques. The aim of this workshop is:

To review the current state-of-the-art in galaxy clustering data, analysis, and identify the main challenges ahead.

To gather a broad range of new and established analysis methods and offer a platform to share expertise between groups.

To identify common obstacles and solutions for establishing and end-to-end pipeline that can be applied to data.

To discuss robustness criteria for any analysis pipeline and the requirements for mock data challenges.

For more information and registration please refer to https://events.gwdg.de/event/573/ , and to https://indico.sissa.it/event/93/ for last year’s edition.
Please save the date and spread the word to those who might be interested. Apologies if you receive this announcement more than once.

5. Reionisation in Relic Radiation workshop (27-30 May 2024, Orsay, France)
We are pleased to announce that we will be hosting the third instalment of the CMB+EoR workshop, renamed the Reionisation in Relic Radiation workshop (R3 workshop) at the Institut d’Astrophysique Spatiale, Université Paris-Saclay, in Orsay, France, on May 27-30, 2024.
The workshop aims at bringing researchers from the galaxy, 21cm and CMB communities together to share the progress made in their respective fields regarding reionisation, but also to compare models, improve forecasts, and find ways to exploit the potential of cross-correlating CMB with other reionisation observables.
We expect to address the following questions during the workshop:

  • What can we learn about reionisation from CMB small- and large-scale data?
  • What are the current limitations of these techniques and what needs to be done to overcome them?
  • What can we expect from next-generation CMB experiments such as CMB-S4 and LiteBird?
  • How will other observations, such as 21 cm, low-z, high-z galaxies and intensity mapping, complement and support CMB information?

and we are open to suggestions.

To foster discussions and new collaborations, the workshop is intended as an in-person event, but talks will be broadcasted online.
You can find more information on the workshop website, which will be regularly updated.
Abstract submission and registration are now open via this link. The deadline for abstract submission and registration is February 14. We particularly encourage talk submissions from students and early-career scientists – note that a participation to travel expenses can be provided.
For queries about this meeting (including request for travel funding or an invitation letter), please email: cmb.eor.workshop@gmail.com.

We look forward to seeing you in Paris!

6. EDSU-Tools 2024 conference (2-7 of June 2024, island of Noirmoutier, France)

The EDSU-Tools 2024 conference will be held in island of Noirmoutier (France) from 2nd to 7th of June 2024.

The ”Exploring the Dark Side of the Universe Tools 2024”  is a follow-up of ”World Summit EDSU” conferences
held in Guadeloupe island (EDSU2018 and EDSU2020) and La Reunion island (EDSU2022).

EDSU conferences are among the major venues of interaction between cosmologists and particle and astroparticle physicists.
The main goal is to discuss progress and future directions related to outstanding issues, both in Cosmology and in Particle Physics.

EDSU-Tools 2024 has two major additional features :

  • focusing on tools, in the widest sense, allowing physics progress in the above domains i.e.: instrumentation, electronics, big data, AI, theories, models, soft skills…
  • and enlarging tools to the ones used in close by domains of physics namely astronomy of planets, quantum physics, photonics, with the participation of keynote speakers, Michel Mayor, Nobel Laureate 2019 for exoplanets and Alain Aspect, Nobel Laureate 2022 for quantum entanglement.

Strong impact on local population is planned in particular through visits of scientists to high schools – being set up-
and public conferences. An event in Noirmoutier en l”Ile will gather one of our Nobel Laureate, Alain Aspect,
the local 3* chef, Alexandre Couillon at l’Herbaudière and a local Olympic champion, under moderation of MO Monchicourt.
Another public event will be set up with  Michel Mayor on the theme of exoplanets.

The registration and call for abstracts are open with early career scientists (PhD and postdoc) on the website of the conference:
https://indico.cern.ch/event/1267450/ with a deadline on the 15th of February.

9. Postdoctoral position in numerical modeling of astrophysical plasmas

Deadline: Thursday, February 8, 2024
The Institut d’Astrophysique de Paris invites applications for a Postdoctoral position in numerical computing for astrophysics. Our aim is to pioneer a new generation of magnetohydrodynamic codes tailored for the Exascale computing era, specifically to investigate astrophysical conditions crucial for planet formation: exploring the formation of proto-planetary disks, the properties of the interstellar medium and galaxies.

The primary mission involves advancing the Dyablo code to model the advection-diffusion transport of cosmic rays within magnetized plasma. This crucial development will facilitate a comprehensive understanding of how cosmic ray feedback influences the dynamics and thermochemistry of gas in astrophysical contexts.

This collaborative effort involves a team of approximately ten permanent researchers, postdoctoral fellows, and doctoral students. Key contributors hail from the Institut d’Astrophysique de Paris, Centre de Recherche Astrophysique de Lyon, Department of Astrophysics of the Commissariat à l’Énergie Atomique, Institut de Planétologie et d’Astrophysique de Grenoble, and other valued members within the collaboration.
