L’INSU a annoncé l’ouverture de l’appel à projets 2024.

Tous les chercheurs peuvent répondre à l’appel à projets du PNCG pour obtenir les fonds nécessaires en particulier pour financer des projets favorisant le développement et la fédération de la communauté française en galaxies et cosmologie.

2. Journées spectroscopie du PNCG (16-19 oct. 2023, Paris)
Le PNCG organise des journées en octobre 2023 sur les opportunités offertes par les nouvelles générations de spectroscopes IFU et MOS pour l’étude des galaxies et la cosmologie. Les journées comprendront des présentations invitées de perspectives sur les grands instruments du futur (HARMONI, MOSAIC, BlueMUSE, PFS, MSE, WST…) et des contributions, ouvertes aux participants sur les instruments qui existent aujourd’hui. En effet, ces installations offrent des perspectives transformatives pour les sujets d’études de la communauté PNCG, en particulier dans les thématique suivantes:
Archéologie galactique (galaxies résolues en étoiles)
Étude détaillées de galaxies proches ou à redshifts intermédiaires
Étude statistique de grands échantillons de galaxies lointaines

This is the second announcement for the conference on ”New simulations for new problems in galaxy formation” at IAP, Paris between 11-15 December 2023. We are planning for an in-person conference with some online participation.

4. OnBoardingSchool : Introduction au Machine Learning et au Deep Learning (9 au 13 octobre 2023, IJCLab, Orsay)
Nous avons le plaisir de vous annoncer que les inscriptions à l’école OnBoarding School sont ouvertes. Cette école, qui s’inscrit dans le cadre du projet AISSAI (Artificial Intelligence for Science ans Science for Artificial Intelligence) du CNRS, a pour but de proposer une introduction au Machine Learning et au Deep Learning à travers des cours et des TPs.
Elle aura lieu à Orsay (IJCLab) du 9 au 13 octobre.
Elle est ouverte à tous, ingénieur-e-s, chercheu-rs-ses, (post-)doctorant-e-s. Les cours seront dispensés en français.

5. The 32nd Texas Symposium on Relativistic Astrophysics (11-15 Dec 2023, Shanghai, China)
Since 1963, the Texas Symposium on Relativistic Astrophysics has been one of the most important international conferences in astronomy and physics. Traditionally, it moves around the globe and takes place in different cities every two years. The year 2023 marks the 60th anniversary of the Texas symposium series (see Trimble 2011 for the history), and the 60th anniversary of the discovery of the Kerr solution and of the identification of quasars.
The 32nd Texas Symposium on Relativistic Astrophysics will take place in Shanghai, China, from December 11 to 15,2023. It will be hosted by Tsung-Dao Lee Institute, Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
Shanghai, situated on the estuary of Yangtze River, serves as the most influential economic, financial, international trade, and cultural center in East China. It is also a popular destination for travelers seeking to experience the country’s dynamic development. In addition to its modernization, the city’s multicultural flair endows it with a unique charm. New skyscrapers and old Shikumen together draw the skyline of the city. Western customs and Chinese traditions intertwine, making any visit to Shanghai a memorable experience.
Tsung-Dao Lee Institute (TDLI), initiated by Tsung-Dao Lee, a prominent Chinese-American physicist and Nobel laureate in Physics, was established in 2016 with strong support from various Chinese government agencies. The goal of TDLI is to develop into a top-level physics-astronomy research institute in the world, and to boost research and develop talents in basic sciences in China. Professor Frank Wilczek was the founding director, and Professor Jie Zhang is the current director.
The symposium will cover all major topics on high-energy and particle astrophysics, cosmology and relativity. It will include morning plenary sessions and afternoon parallel sessions which will function as mini-symposia in each sub-field. The plenary sessions will consist of ~45 min review talks. The afternoon sessions will feature oral talks (about 15-30 min) and poster contributions.
We look forward to welcoming hundreds of international astronomers and physicists to Shanghai in December 2023!

6. Chamberlain fellowships at LBNLDeadline: Oct 15, 2023
The Physics Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) announces the competition for the 2024 Owen Chamberlain Fellowships in Experimental Particle Physics and Cosmology. The Fellowship is named after Berkeley Nobel Laureate Owen Chamberlain, who, together with Emilio Segrè, Clyde Wiegand, and Thomas Ypsilantis, discovered the anti-proton at the Berkeley Bevatron in 1955.
The Physics Division has a long tradition of advanced instrument and detector development, computational research (including machine learning), cosmology simulation and analysis, quantum information (sensing and computing), detector R&D, and microelectronics. Our experimental portfolio encompasses high-energy collider physics (ATLAS), neutrino physics (DUNE), direct detection of dark matter (LZ and TESSERACT), rare and precision physics (Mu2e), and experimental cosmology (DESI, Rubin Observatory DESC, Type Ia Supernovæ, Simons Observatory, and CMB-S4).
