2. Tenure-track full-professorship position at the Centre de Physique Théorique (CPT) in Marseille

Deadline: 22/05/2023 at noon CEST

Please see below for the announcement of a tenure-track full-professorship position at the Centre de Physique Théorique (CPT) in Marseille, France (https://www.cpt.univ-mrs.fr/).
This is a “tenure track” position of 3 years (renewable up to +2) with a maximum budget of 200.000 euros per year (excluding the candidate’s salary, negotiated separately). The budget can be used to cover the salaries of PhD students and postdocs, project management costs and computer equipment.

This contract will then give direct access to a permanent university professor position (PR 2), which involves a teaching load in addition to research duties.

The ideal candidate is a gravitational wave (GW) expert with expertise in one or more of the following research areas: tests of general relativity and cosmology with GWs, modeling GW sources, GW ringdown, inflationary GWs, numerical simulations of GW production.

Here is the link with more information about the profile the cosmology team is  looking for and also the documents needed to apply
https://drh.univ-amu.fr/recrutement-cddcdi-lru
IMPORTANT: Please note that in addition to the documents requested on the official application page, candidates should upload a research statement and arrange for at least two letters of recommendation to be sent to alain.barrat@cpt.univ-mrs.fr and christian.marinoni@univ-amu.fr.

Knowledge of the French language is not requested at first, but the successful candidate is expected to be able to teach in French once promoted to full professor.

Interested candidates are encouraged to contact the director of the CPT at thierry.martin@cpt.univ-mrs.fr.

4.  School on Lattice Techniques for Cosmology (Sept 25-29 2023, Remote)

We would like to draw your attention about the Second edition of our School on Lattice Techniques for Cosmology, that will be organised online during Sept 25-29 2023. The school is aimed to provide a pedagogical introduction to lattice field theory techniques and their use to simulate the classical dynamics of interacting fields in an expanding background. The lectures will serve as an introduction to CosmoLattice, a public code developed for lattice simulations of early Universe scenarios. The use of CosmoLattice as a tool to simulate scalar and gauge field non-linear dynamics in an expanding universe will be presented in full detail. Modern applications to inflation, preheating, gravitational wave production, non-minimally coupled scalar field dynamics, axion-like field dynamics, etc, will also be covered. The school is aimed to anyone who would like to learn (or simply improve their knowledge on) how to simulate in a lattice the dynamics of early Universe field theory scenarios.

Registration is now open till Aug. 31st 2023
https://indico.ific.uv.es/event/7055/

Observations: The school will be held online, during 25-29 Sept 2023. Applications can be accepted till August 31st 2023. There is no fee to participate in the school. A schedule considering overlapping day-time windows within Europe, India and China will be set up (details yet to be decided). In order to do practice sessions, participants will need to have access to a personal computer or to a cluster.

The program will tentatively cover:

  • Lattice field theory techniques: discretisation schemes, lattice gauge techniques, and more.
  • Numerical algorithms for differential equations: Leapfrog, Verlet, Runge-Kutta, etc
  • Overview of CosmoLattice: libraries, modularity, parallelisation, …
  • Lattice simulations of interacting fields in an expanding background:
    • Scalar field dynamics with arbitrary potentials
    • U(1) gauge theories with complex charged scalars
    • SU(2) gauge theories with doublet charged scalars
  • Modern applications to early Universe scenarios:
    • Preheating scenarios and onset of radiation domination
    • Production and evolution of gravitational waves
    • Dynamics of derivatively coupled Axion-like fields
    • Dynamics of non-minimally coupled scalar fields
    • Others, if time permits

5. Postdoctoral Position in Clusters of Galaxies Science (Sapienza University in Rome)
Application Deadline: May 27th, 2023
Galaxy Clusters Intra-Cluster Medium investigation with X-ray and millimetre band observations supported by hydrodynamic simulations.

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with expertise in clusters of galaxies science. This is a 1-year position at the Department of Physics at Sapienza University in Rome.
The research project focuses on the study of the intra-cluster medium diffused inside clusters of galaxies using multiwavelength observational approaches. Therefore, the final goal is to reach an accurate knowledge of their total mass for making them a more powerful cosmological tool. Observations in X-ray and millimetre bands, by the Sunyaev-Zel’dovich effect, allow us to recover, in complementary ways, the intra-cluster medium properties, such as the pressure, the density and the temperature, and therefore their total mass by applying physical models or by Machine Learning techniques. The successful candidate will join The Three Hundred collaboration studying synthetic clusters, provided by hydrodynamic simulations, trying to validate the best methodology for the reconstruction of the thermodynamics of the intra-cluster medium, in particular the gas temperature using information from SZ and X-ray, and therefore the total mass of the clusters.
The successful candidate will work at Department of Physics at Sapienza University and he/she will join in the on-going active collaborations of the project. The candidate should be available to travel to participate to observational campaigns, to conferences and to international team meetings.

How to Apply:
See the full position description here and follow the instructions to apply online:
https://web.uniroma1.it/trasparenza/bando/203730_135/2023

At least two letters of reference are to be submitted independently by the referees to marco.depetris@uniroma1.it

The expected starting date is after September 2023.
