2. Second Michigan Cosmology Summer School (5-9 June, 2023, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA)We are pleased to announce the second Michigan Cosmology Summer School from June 5-9, 2023 at the University of Michigan campus in Ann Arbor, MI.  The target participants are graduate students and junior postdocs.

Additional details are in the Summer School website:

https://johannesulf.github.io/cosmology-school-2023/ including a preliminary list of lecturers.

While we expect the majority of participants to be in-person, we will provide a hybrid setup, opening lectures and interaction spaces to online participants.   This should significantly broaden the accessibility of the School to junior scientists based in countries from which it is expensive and difficult to travel to the U.S.

The school will cover topics across the field of cosmology ranging from theory to experiment, but the emphasis will be on computation and the interface between data and theory. An overarching goal of the school will be to provide participants with concrete practical skills for data modeling. The focus will be on the theoretical underpinnings of inflation, dark matter, and dark energy using modern measurements, principally those coming from the LSS and CMB.

The registration opens late January. The Leinweber Center for Theoretical Physics will heavily subsidize registration costs to minimize barriers for attendees. The weather in Michigan that time of the year should be very nice, with long sunny days. We are planning to organize some outdoor activities as well.

3. “Future Cosmology”, École thématique du CNRS (23-29 April 2023, Cargèse, France)

https://www.cpt.univ-mrs.fr/~cosmo/EC2023/index.php

Cosmology is at the dawn of a revolution in terms of the quantity and quality of observation data on large structures. During the next two years, the Euclid mission will be launched, the Vera Rubin observatory will have its first light, followed very closely by the SPHEREx and Nancy Roman space missions. This thematic school of CNRS aims to provide a modern panorama on these new observatories, the different multi-wavelength probes on the physics of large scale structures, the rising tensions in cosmology, the problems caused by the influence of baryons and the opportunities provided by new multi-messengers approaches (e.g. gravitational waves). For the above reasons, the school will cover aspects of photometric and spectroscopic galaxy catalogues, weak lensing of galaxies, cosmic microwave background (including the lensing of it), a presentation on Euclid, LSST and SPHEREx and tensions/opportunities in the combination of these datasets. Participants will also be provided an overview on classical statistics computed on large scale structures to infer cosmological parameters, and new methods that are being developed.

4. Moriond Gravitation 2023 (18-25 March, 2023, La Thuile, Italy)

The next Rencontres de Moriond and GRAM Colloquium on Gravitation will take place from March 18 to 25, 2023 in La Thuile (Italy). It will be an “in person” meeting and promises to be exciting with lively discussions after so many zoom meetings!

The conference will review the subject one year after the last live edition and in particular after many exciting recent results (GW observations in the O3 LIGO-VIRGO running time, MICROSCOPE latest results, New results in atom-interferometric tests of the equivalence principle, observation of GR-effects at the galactic centre, new searches for Dark Matter, …)

The main topics of the conference will be:

  • Gravitational waves: sources, searches and observations
  • Space borne detectors
  • Strong field tests of General Relativity (Pulsars, Black holes,…)
  • Quantum sensors
  • Pulsar timing
  • Fundamental physics with gravitational waves
  • Tests of the equivalence principle
  • Astrometry, solar system ephemerides and observational gravity tests
  • Clocks, lasers and fundamental constants
  • Tests of GR and alternative theories (CPT and Lorentz violation,…)
  • Modified gravity theories
  • Short range gravity: classical, atom and neutron tests
  • Long range gravity, dark matter, dark energy

The conference will include both review and contributed talks and will be organized only in plenary sessions.

Registration is now open as well as abstract submission.
Abstract deadline: February 12th, 2023.

More details can be found on the web site of the conference:

5. Two postdoctoral positions in Cosmology (LUPM, Montpellier)

Deadline: Dec 30, 2022

The Theoretical Particle Physics and Cosmology group of the “Laboratoire Univers et Particules de Montpellier” (LUPM) based in Montpellier, France, invites applications for two post-doctoral positions to work on theoretical and phenomenological aspects in Cosmology. The successful candidates will be hired through the ERC “NewRecords” awarded to Dr. Vivian Poulin that aims at establishing the implications of the recent “cosmic tensions” for the nature of Dark Matter and Dark Energy. The positions are intended for three years (with possible extensions of up to two years), to start any time in 2023 (at latest in the Fall).
